Agility

Agility can be played by people of all ages and dogs of all sizes. Using verbal skills and body language, the person is responsible for directing the dog through a course of obstacles in a race for both time and accuracy. We offer introductory classes through to competitive level classes as well as workshops and fun events.

Introduction to Agility

In this four week course you and you dog will learn all of the agility equipment including: straight tunnel, curved tunnel, chute, tire jump, long (broad) jump, 6 weave poles, a-frame, teeter, and dog walk. Instruction will be given on how to complete all equipment safely and stopped contacts will be taught as well. Also included in the four week session are foundation skills for Agility including moving lie down on mat, go around cone and spin left and right.
This class runs for four, one hour lessons and costs $106.20 plus HST.

Agility Sequences 1

In this six week session students learn to put agility obstacles together with the goal of running an entire course of 10 - 12 obstacles. We will also introduce handling skills such as front cross, rear cross, blind cross and how to use these handling maneuvers on simple sequences. Foundation skills such as stopped contacts, verbal right and left and verbal jump/turn cues will be continued.
This class runs for six, one hour lessons and costs $159.30 plus HST.

Agility Sequences 2

In this six week session students learn common agility sequences such as pinwheel, serpentine, threadles, 90 degree turns and 180 degree turns. This session also focuses on obstacle discrimination and proofing obstacle names. At the end of each class a starters type course will be run focusing on handling using rear, front, blind crosses and the sequences learned that week.
This class runs for six, one hour lessons and costs $159.30 plus HST.

Agility Sequences 3

This six week session focuses on advanced to masters level handling skills and sequences involving pull throughs, back sides, calling past obstacles and tunnel entry discriminations. Students will work up to 12 weave poles. Go out and send away skills will be introduced and practiced. An advanced to masters level course will be run at the end of each class.
This class runs for six, one hour lessons and costs $159.30 plus HST.

Introduction to Agility Games

In this six week session students will learn common agility games such as gambles, snooker, steeplechase as well as the differences between standard and jumpers. Courses will be run each week using a different game and skill work will be developed depending on strategy and handling.

Agility Course Running for Competition

In this six week session students learn and practice the rules and nature of agility competition. Mock trials are set up each week to simulate a trial atmosphere. Warm up tricks and one jump work is reviewed to help students learn their best pre-trial warm up routine.
This class runs for six, one hour lessons and costs $159.30 plus HST.

Disc Dog

  • In Disc Dog, dogs and handler teams can learn to play Toss and Fetch and Freestyle.
  • Toss and Fetch is a throwing and catching event, while Freestyle is a timed choreographed routine which includes vaults, flips, leaps while throwing and catching discs.
  • Introduction to Disc

    In this four week session dogs will learn how to catch a frisbee,bring it back and drop it either for another throw or another frisbee. Students will also learn common tricks that can later be added to a freestyle disc routine. Tricks that will be covered include spin, scoot, backup, roll over, get in a box and get on a box.
    This class runs for four, one hour lessons and costs $106.20 plus HST.

    Introduction to Disc Sequences

    In this six week session dogs will learn how to catch different throws including butterfly, under the leg, behind the back, thumber and more. Common disc sequences will be taught including pass by, zig zag, juggle, multiple, and around the world. Tricks will be added to disc throws as well as used in small segments. New tricks added in this session include weave walk and jumping over body parts. This session will include box work while working toward a back stall. Students will learn the rules of toss and fetch competition and each dog will have a turn at the end of each class practicing toss and fetch working on strategies to help their game.

    Dog Fit

    DogFit is a four week fitness class for you and your pooch that focuses on cardiovascular, muscular and flexibility training through fun tricks and games. Each class includes a thorough warm-up followed by a cardio segment that incorporates some basic skills from dog sports like freestyle, rally-o and agility. The class also incorporates coordination work like cavaletti training and hand targeting; whole-body strengthening exercises including tricks like sit-pretty as well as balance board and perch work in addition to canine stretching and massage. The majority of the class focuses on the dog, although the humans may choose to take a more active role if they wish as instructed by our certified fitness instructor and personal trainer. This class is ideal for anyone who wants to build their connection with their furry friend, those who are looking to improve their dogs physical fitness level or anyone who is currently involved in or interested in other dog sports. Prerequisites: Dogs of all ages and abilities can participate as long as they are free from injury. However, all dogs must have basic obediance including loose leash walking, sit, down, and stay. Knowledge of hand-targetting, perch work and mat work is an asset

    Flyball

    Flyball is run in teams of four dogs, as a relay where dogs run against each other over a line of hurdles, to a box that releases a tennis ball to be caught when the dog presses the spring-loaded pad, and then back to their handlers while carrying the ball.

    Introduction to Flyball

    In this four week course you and you dog will learn the basics of flyball including: recall over jumps, send over jumps, box turn and ball retrieval from box. Foundation skills for flyball will also be taught such as tug games, recall games and proper retrieval skills.
    This class runs for four, one hour lessons and costs $106.20 plus HST.

    Rally-O

    Rally Obedience is a compilation of obedience exercises performed in a sequence that are based in heeling, sit, down, stand and stay. There are more than 40 obedience movements organized in stations throughout a Rally- O course. Handlers move their dogs through the course with verbal and hand cues in an upbeat manner. Praise is encouraged while points are deducted for harsh commands and intimidating body signals.

    Introduction

  • Learn the complex set of exercises associated with the Rally-O Rules and signs.

    Advanced

  • A continuation of sign and rule learning with more advanced exercises and with increased precision.

    Nose Work & Scent Games

    A dog’s sense of smell is 2000 greater than that of a human. While it is instinctual for dog’s to use their noses, we can teach them how to use their noses appropriately and constructively with scent games. There are two main ways that your dog follows a scent: Air scenting: following his nose quickly and through the air and Tracking or ground scenting: following a scent foot step to foot step.

    Introduction

  • Getting your dog excited about using his nose to seek out a favourite toy or treat.
  • Your dog will learn to Cue you when the scent has been found.
  • Learn to search out the hidden scent in expanding environments.

  • This class runs for six, one hour lessons and costs $155 plus HST.

    Freestyle Dance

    Musical Canine Freestyle of Freestyle Dance is a mixture of obedience training, tricks, and dance that allows for creative interaction between dogs and their owners. There are two types of musical canine freestyle, freestyle heeling and musical freestyle. Freestyle heeling focuses on a dog's ability to stay in variations of the heel position while moving to music. Musical Freestyle incorporates the dog performance of a variety of tricks and other obedience talents.

    Introduction

  • You will work on teaching your dog to move in various directions and patterns.
  • Your dog will learn tricks such as weaving and spinning.
  • Teaching a dog to be able to work on both sides of you.
  • Linking two or three moves together.
  • Learn how to select and map out music to create a well choreographed routine.

    Triebball

    In Triebball, the dog must gather and drive large exercise balls into a soccer goal.
    Herding, chasing, agility and soccer are combined to make this a fun game for any breed. Dogs push 8 large Pilates-type exercise balls into a goal, working at a distance from their handler who is only allowed to use whistles, verbal or hand signals to direct their dog.

    * You will need to supply your own balls for this class

  • Dogs will learn to touch and push on cue.
  • Teach your dog ball handling skills including go around and wait.
  • Learn how to guide a balls direction while pushing towards a goal.

  • This class runs for six, one hour lessons and costs $155 plus HST.

    Sports Requirements

  • Your dog should have some prior experience with basic obedience and be fairly comfortable and focused in a group class setting.
  • Level One Obedience Training Recommended.
  • Proof of age appropriate vaccines, including bordetella, is required for the safety of the dogs.
  • Do not attend classes if your dog is experiencing any symptoms of illness including diarrhea, coughing, sneezing, red or goopy eyes or general lethargy.
